Fuel Cost Calculator
Estimate how much fuel a trip will cost based on distance and your car's consumption.
How the fuel cost is calculated
If your consumption is given as liters per 100 km, the calculator multiplies your distance by that rate and divides by 100 to find liters needed. If given as kilometers per liter, it simply divides the distance by that rate. The resulting liters are then multiplied by your fuel price per liter to get the total cost.
Finding your car's fuel consumption
- Check your vehicle's manual or manufacturer specifications for its official consumption figure
- You can calculate your own real-world rate by dividing liters used by distance traveled (×100 for the per-100km figure) over a full tank
- Highway driving is typically more fuel-efficient than city driving with frequent stops
Frequently asked questions
What's the difference between the two consumption units?
"Liters per 100 km" is common in most of the world and Saudi Arabia - a lower number means better efficiency. "Kilometers per liter" is used in some other regions and works the opposite way - a higher number means better efficiency.
Does this account for traffic, terrain or driving style?
No, it uses a single average consumption rate you provide, so it gives a straightforward estimate. Heavy traffic, hilly terrain, air conditioning use and aggressive driving typically increase real fuel consumption above the average rate.
Can I use this to compare the cost of two different routes?
Yes - run the calculation once for each route's distance (keeping the consumption and price the same) and compare the two results to see which route costs less in fuel.
