Ramadan & Eid Countdown
How many days are left until Ramadan, Eid al-Fitr, Arafah and Eid al-Adha.
Today's Hijri date: …
How the countdown works
The tool reads today's date in the Umm al-Qura calendar, the official Hijri calendar of Saudi Arabia, using your browser's built-in calendar engine. It then finds the next occurrence of each event (1 Ramadan, 1 Shawwal, 9 and 10 Dhul Hijjah, and 1 Muharram) and counts the days between today and that date.
Key dates explained
- Ramadan begins on the 1st of the ninth Hijri month and lasts 29 or 30 days
- Eid al-Fitr falls on 1 Shawwal, the day after Ramadan ends
- Day of Arafah is 9 Dhul Hijjah, followed by Eid al-Adha on 10 Dhul Hijjah
- Islamic New Year is 1 Muharram
Frequently asked questions
Why might the countdown be off by a day?
The Umm al-Qura calendar is calculated astronomically in advance, while the official start of Ramadan and the Eids is confirmed by moon sighting. In some years the sighted date differs from the calculated one by a day, so treat the countdown as accurate to within one day.
Which country's calendar does this follow?
It follows the Umm al-Qura calendar used in Saudi Arabia. Other countries that rely on local moon sighting may announce Ramadan or Eid a day earlier or later than the dates shown here.
Does the countdown update automatically?
Yes - it uses your device's current date each time the page loads, so the number of days remaining is always up to date. Press Refresh if you leave the page open past midnight.
