GPA Calculator
Calculate your semester GPA — and your new cumulative GPA — on a 5.0 or 4.0 scale.
How GPA is calculated
Each grade is worth a number of points. Multiply the points for each course by its credit hours to get the course's quality points, add them all up, and divide by the total credit hours: GPA = Σ(points × hours) ÷ Σ(hours). Courses with more credit hours therefore have a bigger effect on your GPA.
Grade point values used
- 5.0 scale: A+ 5.00 · A 4.75 · B+ 4.50 · B 4.00 · C+ 3.50 · C 3.00 · D+ 2.50 · D 2.00 · F 1.00
- 4.0 scale: A+ 4.00 · A 3.75 · B+ 3.50 · B 3.00 · C+ 2.50 · C 2.00 · D+ 1.50 · D 1.00 · F 0.00
These are the values most commonly used by universities in Saudi Arabia and the Gulf. Some institutions use slightly different tables (for example an A− grade), so check your own university's regulations if your result needs to be exact.
Frequently asked questions
How do I get my cumulative GPA?
Enter your previous cumulative GPA and the number of credit hours you had already completed. The calculator combines those with this semester's courses and shows your new cumulative GPA alongside the semester GPA.
Do pass/fail or withdrawn courses count?
Usually not. Courses graded pass/fail or withdrawn are typically excluded from the GPA calculation, so leave them out.
Is a 4.5 on the 5.0 scale the same as a 3.6 on the 4.0 scale?
Not exactly. The scales are not simple multiples of each other because the point values for each letter differ. Universities and employers usually convert using their own official tables rather than a straight ratio.
