VAT Calculator
Add VAT to a net price, or extract the VAT from a price that already includes it.
How VAT is calculated
Adding VAT: VAT = net × rate ÷ 100, and the gross price = net + VAT. At 15%, a net price of 100 becomes 115.
Removing VAT: net = gross ÷ (1 + rate ÷ 100), and VAT = gross − net. At 15%, a gross price of 115 contains 15 of VAT and a net of 100. A common mistake is to take 15% of the gross price, which overstates the tax.
Frequently asked questions
What is the VAT rate in Saudi Arabia?
The standard rate is 15%, applied since 1 July 2020. Certain supplies — such as some exports, international transport and qualifying medicines — are zero-rated or exempt, so always check the category of the goods or services involved.
Can I use this for other countries?
Yes. Enter any rate — for example 5% for the UAE, Bahrain (10%), or 20% for the UK — and the calculator applies the same formulas.
Why is removing VAT not the same as subtracting 15%?
Because the 15% was applied to the net amount, not the gross. To reverse it you divide by 1.15 rather than multiply by 0.85. Subtracting 15% of 115 gives 97.75, which is wrong; the true net is 100.
