How the gratuity is calculated

Article 84 of the Saudi Labor Law sets the end of service award at half a month's wage for each of the first five years of service and a full month's wage for each year after that. The award is based on the last wage and is pro-rated for any partial year of service.

What happens if you resign

Article 85 reduces the award when the employee resigns:

If the contract ends or the employer terminates it (other than for the reasons listed in Article 80), the full award is due regardless of service length.

Frequently asked questions

Which wage should I enter?

Enter your last monthly wage. In general practice this means the basic salary plus fixed allowances such as housing and transport. Variable items like commissions and overtime are usually treated differently, so check your contract or consult the Ministry of Human Resources if you are unsure.

Are partial years counted?

Yes. The law entitles the worker to an award for fractions of a year in proportion to the time spent in service, and this calculator pro-rates the award to the day.

Is this an official calculation?

No. This is an estimate for planning purposes based on the general rules above. Your actual entitlement may differ depending on your contract, the exact reason for termination, and any special cases in the law. For an official figure, use the Ministry of Human Resources and Social Development calculator or consult a labor advisor.
